uDoc privacy policy
In short
uDoc does not collect your data. It has no account, no ads, no analytics, no crash reports and no tracking, and it shares nothing with anyone. uDoc asks Android for no permission at all, and in particular not for the internet permission, so the app cannot send anything over the network. Your documents stay on your phone and in the places you choose to save them.
What uDoc does with your documents
- When you open a document (in uDoc, through Android's file picker, or with Open with or Share from another app), Android gives uDoc access to that one file. uDoc makes a working copy in its own private storage, which other apps cannot read, so that you can edit it.
- When you save, uDoc writes through Android to the file you opened, or to the place you choose in Save As. A copy or an export goes where you choose in Android's save dialog.
- While you edit, uDoc keeps a recovery copy of your unsaved work in its private storage, so that a crash or a closed app does not lose your writing. It is removed when you save, close the document or discard it.
- If the file you pick lives in a cloud storage app such as Google Drive, that app and its provider sync it under their own privacy policy. uDoc does not connect to Google Drive or to any other service. It only talks to Android's file picker.
What uDoc keeps on your phone
- The working copies and recovery copies described above.
- Your settings: interface choices, the list of recent documents (their names and where their working copies are), words you add to the dictionary.
- No log file. uDoc writes technical messages (sizes, times, error messages and the names of folders and files) to Android's system log only, which an app cannot read from another app and which only someone who connects the phone to a computer with Android's developer tools can see; it never holds the text of your documents, and uDoc never sends it anywhere.
All of this stays on your phone and is deleted when you uninstall uDoc or clear its storage in Android's settings. Files you saved stay where you saved them.
Permissions
uDoc asks for none: not the internet, not files, photos or media (files go through Android's own picker, which gives the app only the file you choose), and not contacts, location, camera, microphone, phone or calendar.
Backups
Android's cloud backup is switched off for uDoc, and documents, working copies and recovery copies are left out of a transfer to a new phone. Settings can move with Android's own transfer.
Other companies
uDoc contains no advertising, analytics or other third party service. It is built with open source libraries that run on your phone only. They are listed with their licenses under About, Licenses.
Children
uDoc is a general purpose word processor. It is not made for children and collects no data from anyone.
Your choices
Because uDoc holds no data about you, there is nothing for the developer to show, correct or delete. You control the files on your phone: delete a document in the app where it is stored, or uninstall uDoc.
Changes
A change to this policy is published at this address with a new effective date. A change that would make uDoc collect anything would also be stated in the store listing before the update that does it is released.
